Bloomberg Speaks Before National Group For Infrastructure
July 24, 2008

The mayor announced in New Orleans Thursday the expansion of a group that will lobby for federal funding for the nation's infrastructure.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, is a co-chair of the Building America's Future Coalition.

Bloomberg spoke with dozens of legislators about challenges they face getting money for critical projects in their states.

"It is one of the great shames you and I bare the burden,” said Bloomberg. “We should be insisting on accountability. We should be insisting people justify what they need, we should be insisting that they go and deliver on time and on budget."

He also spoke about municipal projects, including allotting money to fix hospitals and schools.

The mayor said that New York City is fixing existing buildings instead of building new ones that a growing city needs, because of the lack of federal funds.
