Former City Firefighter Drowns
July 24, 2008

A veteran city firefighter drowned this week trying to rescue his son in Nevada.

The FDNY said Martin Simmons, 41, dove into a lake to try to rescue his boy Monday after the child developed a cramp.

Simmons's son survived.

Simmons, a 17-year FDNY veteran, worked at Ladder 111 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn for 15 years.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons. His funeral is scheduled for Monday, July 28 on Long Island.
