Tottenville Teacher Gets Probation For Trying To Choke Student
July 23, 2008

A Tottenville High School substitute teacher was sentenced to a year of probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges that he tried to choke a student.

According to the District Attorney's Office, 61-year-old Michael Doti of Greenridge pled guilty to disorderly conduct charges last week stemming from the November 29th incident.

Police say Doti got into an argument with a 16-year-old boy and allegedly grabbed the student by his neck. The teen was treated by the school nurse.

Doti taught in Brooklyn for 31 years before retiring in 2002 and becoming a substitute teacher at Tottenville. In addition to the one year of probation, he will also have to do four days of community service.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Education says Doti will no longer be allowed to teach in the city school system.
