Design duo Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa presented a jaw-dropping collection of evening wear at Chelsea Art Museum. George Whipple filed the following report.

From cocktail dresses to ball gowns, these glamorous red carpet-ready looks were inspired by the Far East.

"It sort of has a Chinese feel to it," said Marchesa co-designer Georgina Chapman. "You can see with the embroideries and the draping. It's evening wear, it's fun, it's a little decadent. and we wanted to keep it light as well."

"It's always an organic process for her," added co-designer Keren Craig. "She drapes on the mannequin and she'll take a piece of fabric and she'll create a fantastical fantasy."

Throughout this fantasy we saw tulle, lace, intricate beading, and even flowers made from feathers. Silhouettes that belong on a pedestal will make any woman feel like a princess or a goddess.

Another designer creating show-stopping stunners was Ralph Rucci. After presenting his last two collections in Paris, Rucci returned to the tents in Bryant Park and was welcomed back with a standing ovation.

"It's quite wonderful, it's humbling, it allows me to know that where I go with the work creates a chord, hits a chord in someone's heart," Rucci said.

For his Chado Ralph Rucci collection, every season is an evolution – and this time around he says he wanted to experiment with transparency and featherweight fabrics.

"We worked on silk tulle and created double-faced shapes that would float on the surface of the garment," Rucci said. "Most often the rectangular and monolithic shapes that you saw came from my intrigue with Mark Rothko's studies of ascensions."

Interestingly, Rucci says that what matters most in the end is if these looks please you.

And there's no question, this crowd was very pleased.
