Hiram Monserrate is scheduled to be sworn into the State Senate today, despite word of mounting evidence against him in the alleged beating of his girlfriend last month.

The Daily News quotes law enforcement sources that say it's clear the slashing was not an accident. That conclusion, according to the sources interviewed by the paper, comes after seeing a security video from the hallway of the building where it happened.

The police source says the woman looks "scared out of her mind" in the video.

Law Enforcement sources tell the Daily News, Monserrate can be seen on the tape dragging a bleeding Karla Giraldo from his apartment.

The video is also said to show Giraldo banging on a neighbor's door for help, holding a towel to her eye. That neighbor tells the paper she was afraid to open the door.

Monserrate was arrested after Giraldo was cut in the face by broken glass. Both he and Giraldo say Monserrate tripped while holding a drinking glass.

Yesterday, he talked about the arrest during a Three Kings Day celebration in Queens.

"Obviously, an unfortunate accident has occurred," said Monserrate. "I have already made public statements and I stand by those statements. Happy Three Kings Day."

Monserrate told the Daily News yesterday that any video tapes obtained from his building will back up his story.

These charges are not sitting well with Monserrate's fellow politicians. Republican Senator Martin Golden plans to introduce a resolution today that would bar Monserrate from taking his seat until the charges are settled.
